The Douglas County Commission has officially hired a School of Civil and Environmental Engineering alumnus as the new county administrator.

Mark Teal, B.S. 1991, has been the Georgia county’s director of development services and county engineer since 2006. For the last few months, he has served as interim county administrator.

Commissioners voted to give Teal the full-time job March 17.

Teal worked briefly in private industry before joining the City of Carrollton and earning his professional engineer's license.

More from the Douglas Neighbor’s Bill Baldowski:

Commissioner Mike Mulcare said Teal’s knowledge of managing government projects dates to Teal’s days working with the city of Carrollton.

“Added to that are the years he has been in Douglas County as development service director,” he said.

“I think his appointment is a win-win situation for county taxpayers as his level of management, while perhaps equivalent in operations and staff responsibilities to a private company, has uniqueness to it because county government must be transparent and meet a set of rules mandated by the state and federal government.”
