Biography

Patricia Mokhtarian joined our School in Fall 2013 semester from University of California-Davis, where she was a professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, associate director of the Institute of Transportation Studies, and founding chair of the interdisciplinary MS/PhD program in Transportation Technology and Policy. Prior to joining the UC Davis faculty in 1990, she worked for several years in regional planning and consulting in Southern California.  Dr. Mokhtarian has specialized in the study of travel behavior for more than 30 years, and has authored or co-authored more than 200 refereed journal articles, technical reports, and other publications.  She is a North American area editor of the journal Transportation, and is on the editorial boards of Transportation Research Part A, Transport Policy, Transportation Letters, the International Journal of Sustainable Transportation, the European Journal of Transport and Infrastructure Research, and Travel Behaviour and Society . Mokhtarian is one of five College of Engineering faculty members honored with Regents’ appointments by the University System of Georgia's Board of Regents. The titles are the highest distinction from the system and recognize faculty members for academic, innovation, and entrepreneurial excellence.

Patricia Mokhtarian Elected to National Academy of Engineering

Two College of Engineering professors are among the newest members of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), the organization announced Feb. 6. Patricia Mokhtarian and David Sholl are part of a 2024 class that includes 114 new members and 21 international members. Election to the NAE is an honor bestowed on just 2,600 professionals worldwide.
